Eleanor Knox

Masters Student | School of the Environment, and Agriculture and Food Sustainability

About

After studying zoology, wildlife management and conservation biology in her undergraduate degree and coursework Masters, Eleanor's career took her to the USA where she worked for over a decade with great apes in a zoo setting. Now back in QLD, she works full-time in the UQ STEM engagement program, Wonder of Science.

With a strong interest in science communication and changing human behaviour to improve conservation outcomes, Eleanor is currently in the MPhil program part time at UQ, exploring strategies to engage and communicate hard to see conservation challenges with private landholders. Eleanor is keen to learn the new skillset of a social conservationist, under the primary supervision of Associate Professor Angela Dean.

Dr April Reside is Eleanor's co-supervisor as her initial project will survey farmers in the Darling Downs region to understand their perspectives and willingness to support environmental stewardship - including helping to conserve cryptic reptiles like the Condamine earless dragon.

Eleanor has a passion for connecting people to wildlife and wild places and making science fun and accessible for everyone.
